Pop star Meghan Trainor is using her platform to share a candid and cautionary tale about her experience with Botox. Speaking on the November 20 episode of her podcast Workin’ On It with her brother Ryan Trainor and husband, actor Daryl Sabara, the “Made You Look” singer revealed that an ill-advised cosmetic enhancement left her unable to smile properly.
“I got too much Botox and I need help,” Trainor admitted, addressing her fellow 30-somethings. “I messed up.” She explained that she initially tried Botox to smooth her forehead and was later convinced to get a “lip flip”—a procedure involving filler above the upper lip to create the illusion of fuller lips. The results, however, were far from what she had hoped.
“I cannot smile anymore,” Trainor confessed, demonstrating her limited smile for her podcast listeners and encouraging viewers to check YouTube for the visual. “And now I can’t unsee it. Everywhere I go, I cannot smile. My face hurts to even try.”
A Smile That “Lights Up a Room”
Reflecting on her ordeal, Trainor realized how much her natural smile meant to her. “You know what this did teach me? It taught me my smile does light up a room. And when it’s not there, it is a dim light.”
The singer recalled a recent trip to a dog shelter, where her stiff smile left her looking, in her words, like she “smelled someone’s fart” in a photo with a dog.
Finding Humor and Moving Forward
Trainor has been using “vibrators” on her upper lip in an attempt to reduce the effects of the Botox but also revealed that she’s considering breast augmentation surgery next, humorously referring to her “leftover mommy boobs.”
Despite the frustration, Trainor’s openness has struck a chord with fans and highlighted the pressures celebrities face regarding cosmetic enhancements. Botox and other procedures are widely embraced in Hollywood, with stars like Selena Gomez and Sofía Vergara discussing their own experiences to combat wrinkles and sagging.
While Trainor’s journey may serve as a lesson about the risks of cosmetic enhancements, her humor and vulnerability also underscore the importance of self-acceptance and learning from past mistakes.
